Franklin Recycling Center Only
- Johnson County residents can drop off Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) without an appointment.
- This service is only for residents and not businesses or SQGs.
- The amount of HHW is limited to a trunk load at the resident's address per month. Other restrictions may apply.
- Hazardous material must be properly stored and in labeled containers. Any material in milk jugs, etc. cannot be accepted.
- We have the right to refuse any material not properly stored/labeled or quantities we deem to be excessive.

We accept the following types of batteries at the Recycling Center:
- Rechargeable Household Batteries
- Button Batteries
- Power Tool Batteries
- Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
- Lithium Ion (Li-ion)
- Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
- Lead Acid (pb)
We do not accept alkaline batteries (Household AA, AAA, C, D, or 9-volt). Alkaline batteries are safe to be deposited into your regular trash.
Fluorescent tubes up to 4 feet long.
(Maximum 16 per household per month.)
No Compact Fluorescent (CFL).
Lowes, Home Depot, Menards and Batteries Plus offers CFL recycling.
For large quantities or business bulb recycling, contact Lighting Resources, Greenwood.
E-Waste

Since January 1, 2011, Indiana state law prohibits the disposal of electronics in trash bound for the landfill. Protect yourself and the environment by recycling your electronics with us.

Medications
If not properly disposed of, medications can negatively impact our environment and waterways. Most pharmacies provide expired or unneeded medicine disposal programs. Please contact your pharmacist for more details. You can also drop off the medicines at the following locations:
Large Trash Disposal
The Johnson County Recycling District DOES NOT ACCEPT TRASH ITEMS, nor is it responsible for county trash pick-up or disposal. If there are issues with your curbside trash pickup, you must contact your town/city office or the trash hauler with whom you subscribe for service. If you do not have curbside services, the following two locations are available for trash and large item disposal within Johnson County for a fee.
